This publication presents the proceedings from the Critical Perspectives Workshop, co-organized by the NATO Climate Change and Security Centre of Excellence (CCASCOE), the UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, and the University of Cambridge. Hosted in Cambridge by the Cambridge Conservation Initiative, Conservation Research Institute, and Cambridge Zero, the workshop brought together experts from military, social sciences, arts, and humanities backgrounds to challenge assumptions and explore innovative approaches to climate security.
Through expert presentations and facilitated discussions, participants examined the links between climate and conflict, the role of participatory governance, and the integration of ecological perspectives into security frameworks. The workshop emphasized interdisciplinary, systemic approaches and the importance of reframing climate security narratives from conflict-focused to resilience-focused strategies.
It provides essential insights for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners seeking inclusive, actionable strategies for addressing climate-driven threats.
