From 11–15 May 2026, the Climate Change and Security Centre of Excellence (CCASCOE) hosted the in-person edition of its annual Climate Change and Security Spring Course, bringing together 36 participants from 22 countries.
Held under the theme “Decision Awareness: Building Climate-Informed Advisory Competence for Military Professionals,” the course welcomed military officers, civilian officials, diplomats, and security practitioners to explore the growing relationship between climate change and international security.
Over five days, participants examined how climate-related risks can influence operational environments, strategic planning, and security decision-making. The programme combined expert-led lectures with scenario-based exercises, collaborative working groups, and a capstone simulation designed to strengthen analytical and advisory skills.
Through these practical learning activities, participants were challenged to assess complex climate-security issues and develop informed advice on a range of climate-related themes relevant to military and security professionals.
The Spring Course reflects CCASCOE’s ongoing commitment to advancing knowledge, building professional networks, and enhancing understanding of the security implications of climate change among Allied and partner nations.
